The Great Escape
“La Grande Fuga” (The Great Escape) is a light installation designed with Martina Caiazzo and placed under the portico of San Carlo Royal Opera House in Naples, during the 2nd edition of Luminaria Light Festival.
The aim of the art installation was both to amaze passersby and to make people reflect on the critical situation of the cultural sector in Italy.
A flock of music scores flies out of the world’s most ancient opera house to symbolize the dramatic cuts which had been made to the public cultural funding in Italy in the previous years.
The projects focuses also on the role of paper as a reading medium.
Electroluminescent sheets are flexible panels in which the emission of light is due to the electrostimulation of phosphors, placed inside two layers of conductive material, which light up when powered by alternating current. An economical and environmentally friendly system, because it represents one of the most efficient light sources in the world.
Electroluminescent technology is being used in digital reading device.
