Mediterranean vibe
Roof garden in Salerno
This hanging garden is a mockup created for Iesu S.p.a. with the aim of showing the final appearance of one of the houses under construction in Salerno. The idea behind the project is to communicate that on our roofs there can be more than a rectangle of tiles and a few plastic pots: there can be a real sustainable ecosystem.
The flat surrounded by the garden is part of a terraced residential complex which will be built on the south-eastern side of Colle Bellaria, a small mountain from whose top you can admire the view of the entire Gulf of Salerno, from the Amalfi coast to the mountains of Cilento.
The aim of the project was therefore to support the environmental integration of the new building complex, imagining a series of hanging gardens that would help integrate the houses into the surrounding landscape.
For this reason, we selected botanical species typical of Campania coast, shrubs and ground cover plants such as holm oaks, strawberry trees, olive trees, laurel, rosemary, thyme, broom, santolina, armeria maritima.
At the same time, we wanted to provide the villa/penthouse with a quality outdoor space, a terrace with a contemporary aesthetic, in which the linearity of the recomposed wood slats blends with the geometries of the stoneware flower beds, a reference to limestone rocks that emerge among the shrubs in the surrounding hills.
Is it possible to bring the Mediterranean scrub to the roofs of buildings? Yes it can be done! Indeed, the vegetation of our coastal strip is among the most suitable to realize a roof garden because it resists well to drought periods and it needs poor and light soils.
