The cycle of seasons

Villa in Nola

The cycle of seasons is one of the natural phenomena that most define the landscape at our latitudes. The project of this garden in Nola intends to take advantage of spring, summer, autumn and winter to create a dynamic and engaging open space, where the residents can explore different corners at different times of the year.

The heart of the garden is the central area: a mediterranean oasis formed by the swimming pool, the solarium and a bright lawn. Olive, cypresses, cycas and some dwarf palms recovered from another garden will create a local yet exotic atmosphere.

On the south side of the garden lies a small grove made by holm oaks, camphors, hornbeams, maples and a weeping willow. During summer these trees will form large areas of shade under which to rest and play. With the arrival of autumn the grove will become the star of the garden. The leaves will turn red, orange, ocher and yellow and then they’ll fall onto the lawn to form a soft and crunchy carpet, which will become the favorite playground for the family dogs.

At the beginning of spring, attention will move to the flower garden on the opposite side of the yard. From March to May the blossoming of cherry trees, almond trees and magnolias will color this part of the garden. Rose shrubs, camellias, viburnums and oleanders will complete this romantic scene with pink and white flowers.

In the area behind the house, shade and warm temperatures create the perfect conditions for a tropical garden. Even during the winter, brugmansias, kenzies and alocasias will liven up the spaces closest to the house and with the arrival of summer agapanthuses and canna indica will add cheerful notes of color.

The first phase of the Nola garden is complete: the irrigation and external lighting system have been created, new trees have been planted and old ones transplanted, finally the lawn has been laid. For now that’s fine. The garden will reach maturity in ten years. In this time the owners will have the opportunity to complete it with the bushes and flowering shrubs already included in the landscape project.
